Dr. Alice Cash practice encompasses such
diverse roles as clinical musicologist; international speaker; workshop
and seminar leader; therapist; clinical educator and professor.
Speaker
Dr. Alice Cash is a nationally known speaker whose work has been showcased
on “The Today Show,” “NBC Nightly News” “Sightings” “Feelin’
Great” and multiple times on National Public Radio. Dr. Cash
has been speaking nationally since 1985 and is much in demand on the
topics of "The Healing Power of Music," "Toning and Chanting:
Tools for Wellness" and "Music: a Healthy Choice through the
Lifespan." In the 1999-2000 season Dr. Cash traveled coast-to-coast
several times as well as spoke to nurses and physicians in Europe in March
of 2000. In 2001 she produced her first book and CD on Music and Medicine
and was invited to introduce it on a speaking tour of England. It was met
with immediate acclaim. Her current emphasis is on incorporating wellness
through music into the hospital setting and surgery especially, as well as
into everyday life. Dr. Cash was a featured speaker at the 25th Annual
National Wellness Conference in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and “Exploring
Health and Wellness” in Lake Louise Canada.Clinical
Musicologist
In 1990 Dr. Cash was chosen by internationally known psychopharmacologist
Dr. Joel Elkes to head the Music and Medicine Program at the University of
Louisville School of Medicine. For almost a decade she directed the
programs that were conducting clinical research and gathering data on the
healing effects of music. Her two best known studies were
“Psychophysiological Aspects of Chant” and “The Therapeutic Use of Music
with Alzheimer’s Patients.”
Performer
Dr. Cash has been presenting concerts, recitals and workshops in music
since 1970. She has studied both in the United States and in Europe with
such masters as Lee Luvisi, Edward Kilenyi, and Ilonka Deckers. In 1986
she began presenting lectures and workshops on women in music, focusing on
Wanda Landowska and the Revival of the Harpsichord. As a result, Dr. Cash
won a prestigious Kentucky Foundation for Women grant which took her to
Paris to conduct research on the life and work of Landowska. Her
dissertation has now been made into an award winning one-hour documentary
on Landowska, premiered last year at the Boston Early Music Festival.
Therapist/Clinician
Dr. Cash is a licensed psychotherapist providing services to individuals,
families, and groups. She uses an eclectic therapeutic approach and
combines her extensive knowledge of music with an understanding of
mind-body medicine. Her clinical experience has been in hospitals,
clinics, and private practice. Dr. Cash conducted clinical research into
the healing effects of music. This research has garnered her national
reputation as one of the few clinical musicologists in the country. Her
current research is focused on music with childbirth and mother-baby
bonding. She also works with patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease
and other dementias, cancer patients, and people about to undergo surgery. |
